Intrinsic motivation refers to motivation to engage in an activity for its own purpose.

People who are motivated work on tasks intrinsically because they find them enjoyable.

Motivation is one of the most important factors which influence language learners’ success or failure in learning the language.

Motivation is defined as "the choices people make as to what experiences or goals they will approach or avoid and the degree of effort they will exert in this respect" (Keller, 1983).

Because of that, to motivate students efficiently is the most recurrent and essential concerns of teachers.

The research on leaning motivation mow has become a hot issue in the area of foreign language teaching.There are two types of motivation: intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation (Deci & Ryan, 1985).In socio-educational aspect, motivation also can be defined into integrative motivation and instrumental motivation (Gardner, 1972).The extrinsic motivation is motivation which is engaged in an activity as a means to an end.Individuals who have extrinsic motivation work on tasks because they believe that participant will result in desirable outcomes such as a reward, teacher praise, or avoidance of punishment (Pintrich & Schunk, 1996).The traditional ways for learning a second language usually involve some systematic approach to the detailed study of grammar and memorization of vocabulary. According to Krashen’s Input Hypothesis, the teacher should provide students with optimal input, which is authentic, interesting and relevant.Because to some extent, we can say the quality and amount of input determines the success or failure in SLA.And instrumental motivation means the desire to acquire a foreign language to find out employment or improve their self-cultivation or improve the social status (Dörnyei, 2001; Gardner & Lambert, 1972).There are another two types of motivation: intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation (Deci & Ryan, 1985).In China, a common phenomenon in college or university is that some students though very excellent in learning all major-related subjects are not interested in learning English at all , and can’ t get the bachelor degree because they fail to pass CET-4 while this certificate is absolute for the degree.L2 motivation is an "eclectic, multifaceted" construct.
